Park Location and Vision
The Fountain Avenue Health Park is being developed on the city-owned property bordered by Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, 13th Street, Madison Street, and 14th Street. Currently this park consists of a large open area, the City’s Community Garden, and the Paducah Rotary Playground which was constructed in June 2016. The vision for the park is to create an outdoor health park with an open field, a 1/3 mile walking trail, inclusive playground, an expansion of the community garden, outdoor fitness equipment, and picnic areas. In the future, there will be a spray pad and plaza area, an obstacle course, public restrooms and the end of the park facing MLK Drive would include housing. The theme of the park is healthy living. It will provide a venue for local schools, the Parks Department, and other agencies to educate the public, especially the youth, about proper diet and exercise.
Regarding the park construction, the Rotary Club of Paducah and volunteers completed the playground in June 2016 with a ribbon cutting held June 26. In addition to the Paducah Rotary Playground, the first phase of the outdoor health park will include the grading of the free play field, the construction of a 1/3 mile walking trail, the expansion of the community garden, and the installation of outdoor fitness equipment. The first phase is expected to go out to bid this summer.
